Portion control diets may be keeping people fat

There is so much media attention these days that is focused on the waistline.  Everyone seems to be engaged in one diet fad or another and the media message is constantly informing us of how thin so many different celebrities and athletes are.  There is a constant pressure to fit in.  Yet even though this message is so prevalent it is surprising that we still have an epidemic of obesity out there.  More and more people are facing some very serious medical conditions because of an inability to lose weight.

This problem continues but not because people are not trying to drop the pounds.  The fact of the matter is that more and more people every single day are going onto the internet to look up topics such as the easiest way to lose weight or tips to achieve dramatic weight loss.  Yet even though they try all these different ideas, these people are achieving limited success.  For all the diet information that is available, there is little that is said about why many of these people do not succeed.

In order to understand this problem, people need to look at the basis for the various diets that are out there.  The reality is that most diets are based upon the concept of portion control.  This is the diet tenet that basically looks at the overall caloric intake of individuals to control their weight.  Diet plans that promote this basically look at lowering calories consumed as well as teach people to exercise more to drop weight.  However, what people should look at as well is what they are consuming in addition to how much.  We find that many obese people are consuming the right amounts of the wrong foods and this is what is causing their weight problem. By looking at the composition of their diets, they can start to take the right steps towards losing weight.
